Who We Are

Practically speaking, New Canaan Society is a group of men who get together generally every 2nd and 4th Friday morning, please see event listings, to hear brilliant and inspiring speakers, to crack dumb jokes, and to enjoy each other's company. On a more profound level we are a group of men who are committed to each other and to God. We are passionately interested in seeing meaningful relationships ("friendships in Jesus") develop among men so that we might become better husbands and fathers. We believe that by putting God and our families first we will be better at everything else we do, both in our places of employment and in our respective communities.

No one, including those involved with it, have ever seen anything quite like New Canaan Society. For many, NCS bears a striking resemblance to a Christian fraternity house, if there were such a thing. For others, we are a Young Life group for men. For still others, NCS is a 12-step program for "recovering sinners."

We are certainly not self-righteous, mainly because we have failed too much and in too many ways. We know that we are morally no better than anyone else, and we delight in being among others who know the same thing. And we realize that we need God’s help and cannot succeed without Him (as most of us have demonstrated at one point or another) and that this is the essence of Christian faith. And all that we do is leavened with humor, because although we take God very seriously, we try not to take ourselves too seriously.

Anyone can join us at any of our gatherings. We are a group of men comprised of a variety of economic, cultural and political backgrounds. In addition to our Friday morning meetings, NCS hosts an annual weekend men's retreat, and throughout the year sponsors a number of "mini-retreats", some of which are geared toward couples and families.
